Why haven’t I heard of Lifeline? How do children come to Lifeline? Why are children sent to Lifeline? Where do you get your funding? How many staff does Lifeline employ? Does Lifeline provide services outside of Indiana? What is the cost for your services? In two words, Lifeline is about “lasting change”. To create lasting change there must be more than just a change in behavior; there has to be a change in heart, attitudes, thinking, values, and beliefs. Through our continuum of care, we equip children and families to make the changes necessary for them to succeed in life. At Lifeline our mission statement is “changing hearts and bringing hope to a generation at risk”—not just for a time, but for a lifetime. Why haven’t I heard of Lifeline? Until recently, our focus was concentrated on the families who needed us the most. We worked to make sure that our services were known to and available to Child Protective Services, Probation Departments, and other local agencies. However, we’ve recently realized two very significant things: First, the programs and services we provide can help everyday families deal with the struggles they’re facing—with or without any court involvement. That’s why we’re making a concerted effort to let families throughout the community know about our Home-Based Counseling & Family Support Services. Secondly, as we’ve grown, so has our need to ask individuals and organizations within the community to partner with us, whether through time, promotion, or financial resources. We’re being more vocal about who we are and what we’re doing in the community so that people can make informed decisions about their involvement with us. How do children come to Lifeline? Lifeline accepts residential placements from county DCS and probation offices, the Department of Corrections, Department of Education, and private placements. Lifeline accepts boys and girls ages 11-21. For placement, please contact Deb Johnson at 574-551-8332, or via e-mail at djohnson@lifelineyouth.org. Additional contacts are Rick Humbarger at 260-438-6902 or via email rhumbarger@lifelineyouth.org or Tony Fingerle at 260-385-4227 via e-mail at tfingerle@lifelineyouth.org. Why are children sent to Lifeline? Lifeline serves thousands of people and many are considered the most vulnerable in our communities: children who have been impacted by or who are at risk for abuse, neglect, or delinquency. While in most cases we work with children and families in their own home, sometimes a child may need a place to stay—either for their own protection or so that they can have the concentrated attention they need to address the issues facing them. In these cases, Lifeline offers residential group homes and independent living services to prepare them to reunite with their family or to gain successful independence from the social welfare system. Our Home-Based Services program is an option for families to help correct problems before reaching a critical point. Or, to help transition kids back into the family following a group home stay. In these cases, we’re working with families’ right in their own homes bringing them the tools and education necessary to strengthen their family. Where do you get your funding? 95% of our funding is generated through contracted fees for services. An additional 2% comes from foundations and grants with another 2% from individuals and corporate contributions. Fundraising events account for 1% of our total funding.* How many staff does Lifeline employ? Lifeline has more than 240 employees across the State of Indiana, with 87% of our staff being full-time and 13% part-time. Does Lifeline provide services outside of Indiana? Yes. Not only does Lifeline accept out-of-state residential placements, but we also offer home-based services in Ohio and Michigan. In addition, Lifeline has successfully worked with privately referred families throughout the United States. What is the cost for your services? Our costs vary by program. Contact Deb Johnson at djohnson@lifelineyouth.org for current rates of services and payment options.
